A Reminder of How Time Flies

I finally received the OCBC credit card. Although my FB status might have hinted that the application process took 2 years, it was actually otherwise.

2 years ago, OCBC rejected my application, for reasons they would not (I suspected ‘could not’) tell me. That haggling process (of me demanding to know an answer and they ignoring my calls) actually went on for a few weeks. I was angry, and I decided that since I had credit cards of almost all respectable banks in SG, I need not have an OCBC card.

A few weeks back (or rather, less than 2 weeks ago), I was surfing around and I wanted to buy some tix to see a show. I saw the OCBC privileges, and thought that since I am so artistically-inclined, I could use that Arts Card they have. So I made an application and the cards came to me a few days back.

The catch of this whole saga is that I was referring to 2 different applications for 2 different cards.

Now, on a side side note, I chose Arts card over the Titanium one, cos I thought by doing so, I could ‘collect’ cards the way I did for the other banks. That over time, they would upgrade my card. If I applied for the Titanium one straight away, they won’t downgrade and give me a Platinum Arts card. of well, they gave me, in addition to the Arts card I applied, a Robinson’s card, Best Denki card and an Ikea card. So, they trumped HSBC by giving me one more card.

hehe…

The conclusion of this matter only gave rise to a troubling matter, that it had been 2 years.

I had consciously counted the months I was in service, but the number did not present any form of significance until today, when I hold the card. Just 2 years ago, I was struggling with my training, going through some nonsense with my squad mates, preparing for the Nepal trip. In the blink of an eye, 2 years had passed by.

It just so happened that I decided to re-watch Ally McBeal, which, come to think of it, was a 15-yr-old show. I watched for nostalgic sake, but I never expected it to have such repercussions in me.

I realized my way of snapping at people was derived from Ally, the part when I bang my head on the wall saying ‘I have my health’ when I am stressed started out from imitating her. Some graphical ideas I had for my novels, like the rapid snapshots, also came from the show. It had such great impact on me.

In fact, the show was what made me wanted to go live in Boston in the first place.

How things have changed over the years. The dream was ripped from me and I still have no idea how I am ever going to find a way to live and work in Boston, or even USA. I do not have a skill that could land me a job over there. The other way was to study Masters in the States and start working over there, but that is on the premise that I have enough money and I still have the zest to study.

Time is a cruel thing. It showed me how dreams are, well, always dreams.
