How Many Ways to Cross a Road??

giam giam is blogging beside me. Someone is sitting behind us watching us blog. I think he must be thinking how ‘lifeless’ we are to indulge in such activities, when it is the exam period.

Unless, of cos, he is blogging like us.

hehe…

Whatever.

Back to the main topic.

giam giam said that there were only 2 ways to cross the road between Central Library and Engin. I told her I can think of more than 2.

If we talk about using official traffic tools, there’s the curb drill, the zebra crossing, and engin bridge.

If we talk about creative ways of crossing the road, we can walk across the road sideways, backwards, skip, hop (with one or both legs), skip/hop with a 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 1/8, 2/8… rythms. We can leopard crawl, baby crawl, crawl-and-run, roll, somersault, forward roll, backward roll, cycle across, handstand, frog jump, star jump, duck-walk, jump-in-a-sack, walk with a spoon and a ping pong ball/egg/fishball in hand, swirl, tip-toe…

The list can go on.

Whatever.

p/s: I finish blogging faster than gg… she started earlier than me… (when I was posting the H&K clips)

Harold and Kumar

muahaha!

Exam period and I was youtubing, watching Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. o_0

I think it was a simple and good show. haha… It can be a no-brainer, or if one makes an effort, can draw a lot from it. But oh well…

Now I want to watch H&K Escape From Guantanamo Bay lol They said it was a more racist, less sincere show, but with the increased budget, it should look less amateur ba…

haha…

See if you can tahan the 1st clip to the end…

Trailer

aiya… forgot to add… haha… In the trailer, when Harold warps into an osama-like guy, don’t you guys think he look and sound like Adrian Pang?? haha…

Skool ‘Art’

I sure quite get myself engaged in several art direction this sem for my assignments. haha… Mainly my presentation, and of cos, for the FYP. In one of my projects, I did the pictures for this Nanotube-based Random Access Memory, which was a new invention yet to be manufactured commercially. And one of my group members actually did a 3D model of the device using foam! haha… I liked that model.

Also, for FYP, I drew all the circuits myself, cos the circuits were neither simple nor complex for ANYBODY to be bothered to post the circuit diagrams. In fact, the circuits were barely found on the net. So I recreated all, and I hope others who needed such diagrams can get it from here ;)

FYP Art

My FYP presentation slide cover. I accidentally created that transformers effect, so I kept it. Well, I thought it looked cool. If you realized, it has a similar structure to the Rodin slides, cos well, I only changed the background and stuff, but not the arrangement.

In fact, the whole theme was derived from the slides that I did for my boss to show the General Director in CAAS every week; with such an ancestry, I safely shoved xx’s criticisms aside about it not looking professional lol

He also complained that we should not use black background, cos it looked unprofessional. And that the words looked so dull against the black background. haha… But that was only cos I bevelled the words, which caused them to have shadows and therefore greyish. And I still believe that white on black is an all-weather theme, cos in times when the projector was weak, or the room was not dark enough, white-on-black would stand out more than black-on-white.

But of cos, he was talking from an engineer’s point of view, of which, my examiner is an engineer, ya?

Whatever. I’m training myself for the working life, not an engineer-engineer’s working environment.

TFET sub-circuit

The device I worked on for my FYP is called TFET, a descendant of the now-popular MOSFET. This is the sub-circuit used to simulate the TFET characteristics, using 2 MOSFETs (PMOS and NMOS).

The following are the circuits which I used to test the TFET sub-circuit, which was represented with the device T1 or T2. The ones without TFET (MOS-versions) are used to compare with the performances of the circuits with TFETs (TFET-versions).

NRAM Model

Coincidentally, NRAM is also like TFET, cos they need an external bias voltage in order to function. But NRAM is a memory; in the state shown in the model, it is OFF. When the red bridge is bent, touching the purple base, it is in ON state (cos current can flow from the bridge to the base).

Private Conversations

I actually finished one paper within 1 hour, and that was the last paper I had available to try out for the exams tomorrow. So, I’m basically quite free.

OK, I used shorthands in answering the paper, I didn’t draw the band diagrams, cos I drew a lot of them yesterday and band diagrams aren’t exactly the toughest diagrams to draw in the world. But I did go through the calculations, the writing process for the qualitative questions.

1 page of answers for 1 paper…

I realized that over the years, instead of trying to memorize all the answers to all possible questions for a paper, I focused on the thinking process of solving the questions. So all I ever needed was to memorize the equations and their uses.

I hope.

I mean, it sure is a safer way to spot questions and study for the questions, or to get tips from profs on what is coming out and what should be dealt with during mugging. But… hehe… I do things on my own, and I hate professors. haha… Professors don’t even want to be bothered with me, I guess.

Anyways, so I went for an early lunch, after which I went to the canteen to finish off the meal. There, Me1 was asking Me2 why I always choose places where few people go. You know, like the empty top deck as opposed to the livelier lower decks, or as above, go get tips and mug for papers like everyone else.

Me1, being a super egoistic ego, said, ‘I will have the whole playing field by myself.’

After all these years, I concluded that I am indeed a very selfish person. I want to have the whole row of seats, if not the whole cinema hall to myself, so I go for early morning sessions. I don’t want to be proven less capable of chao-mugging in papers, so I developed another way of studying.

ya… Point is not this.

I wanted to ask how many people out there engage in such private conversations with themselves every now and then. Not ‘brain deciding between 2 choices by listing out the pros and cons’, but actually imagined 2 Me in a debate (intellectual or not).

It’s a fine line, but I bet those who really had such conversations can differentiate.

Such conversations are good, no? All contents are just within the mind, so no 3rd party in the real world knows about it. In fact, I conduct more conversations in a day than I blog. haha… And what I blog was a fraction of what I talked about.

Conversations go in the direction the mind desires. But of cos, it requires a certain amount of discipline, I guess. Sometimes, I indulge in self-deception and continues in a conversation that only pacifies the weaker self. Other times, I kept changing the direction so I could get a totally fresh solution to problems in life.

ya…

Anyways, talk about blogging too much, Fred actually commented that reading one blog entry of mine exhausts him like reading one article. By ‘article’ I assume he referred to those academic articles, not some entertainment magazine articles ba, since he’s an academic.

I do feel flattered. muahaha!! It implied that my blogs incites the same amount of thinking as an academic journal!! woot! (I shall pretend and eliminate the fact that he did not consciously meant it that way lol)

For an ending, I shall thank God for putting me through another test of will.

You see, Indian Friend was being an irritating asshat yesterday, when she held a video conference without earphones. ie, she was having this conversation with 2 other indians (I assume 2, cos I could only differentiate the guy and gal voices) openly, in the lab, without consideration that other people in the lab were trying to study.

One gal left the lab, and another took to sleeping. I went to watch Kang Xi Lai Le.

That video conference lasted for nearly an hour (whole episode of KXLL, you think leh?), thereabout wasting 1 hour of my study time. I can’t be 100% sure she did this to try to chase me away so that she could take over the feng shui place, but I despise such inconsiderate acts.

I survived the ordeal, and was glad that I took the chance to have a rest. Nice. :) So God, if you really existed to put me to tests, please also make sure IF gets what she deserved in life, by virtue of the inconsiderate acts she committed all her life.

w00t!

Blabbering

I’m so bored…

My neck is aching. haiz… It’s tough to have a heavy head… All the essence inside… swarming… But no one’s appreciating all the good stuff…

Today, the school machiam like no one like that. Even in my lab, the whole stretch of lab, only me and another guy studying. wow… the others all go holiday liaoz…

Anyway, I did a new way of studying. For the 1st time since I learned it 12 years ago, I’m using mindmaps to ‘help’ in studying. But I can see why I gave up in the 1st place…

mind maze

What else??

oh… I took pix of myself while in formal wear. Both for last week’s presentation (hey… that seemed like eons ago…) and for my SSMC interview. ha… But wear formal is tough. The shoes are stiff, my waistline is busting… ooh… Each time I wear formal, I have to hold my breath for one whole day. haha…

But I think I overdo le. The other day, at another presentation, I went to toilet and realized that the hook was un-hooked. lol ie, I hold my breath too much, the waist band became too loose. haha…

1st, with my ah beng look

then from ah beng become ah toot

where is my jaw bone?? gotta SLIM DOWN!!

The tie… oh the tie… That’s the other bad thing about having a big head. A big head needs a thick neck to support. So when I buy a shirt that fits my body, the collar is too small. So… I was almost stifling in it.

But since I was holding my breath for the pants, I wasn’t breathing much anyways.

I gotta buy some shirts that fits my body AND my neck. Maybe have them tailor-made.

1st IC photo in 4 years. Still in collar some more. haha… I was wearing specs that day, in that photo booth. And that machine didn’t give enough time to choose from the 3 takes I took (wear spec, look clearly, choose, press). And the buttons were not ergonomic, so I think I chose the wrong pic, a pic with a snarl. haha! And I think the snarl is so Tay Ping Hui…

And guess what? I forgot to remove my stud too. I wonder if this pic is eligible for a passport, cos in addition to the stud, I also didn’t reveal my forehead. lol

the handout for my FYP presentation. thanx giam for helping me buy the folder last min!!

haiz… Something happened in the last minute. Shall update this post later when I get back to my room.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Back.

So… I was in my 2nd feng shui place, cos well, there was no one in the lab what.

Then the Indian Friend (IF) to whom I dedicated 2 very emotional posts to came along, with her super pungent perfume that I deduced was produced by collecting the sweat of chimpanzees and fermenting them for 49 days, and asked to sit in the 2nd feng shui place that I happened to sit in.

So I told her, why don’t you sit in the 1st feng shui place, since you claimed that your wire is too short??

Nevermind, she agreed. But even before she plugged in her adaptor, along came a PRC Friend who asked to sit in my 2nd feng shui place cos he had a simulation running in that terminal. He said the data is non-terminal-changeable, as though I didn’t know that ALL COMPUTERS IN THE LAB RUN FROM THE SAME SERVER, who say cannot change terminal?

But well, I was intending to leave after the blog post, cos I just shifted a space to finish the previous part.

So… when I left, there was Indian Friend and PRC Friend, squeezed in a corner of an exceedingly empty lab, in my feng shui places.

I hope they are racial-tolerant, I won’t want my friends to be fighting with each other, you know…

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Talk about friends, I recall a lunch-date last week with a group of civilees. The story went that I bumped into Medan and Penang after I took a dump, and they asked me to join them for lunch with gg, a guy whom they insisted I meet cos he sound and talked like me, and another unknown guy.

The focus was not on the 1st guy, cos well, I won’t want to give my competitor free promotion, but on the 2nd guy.

He reminded me of this guy from CSC; not only do they sound like each other, YES, they talk like each other — the same incessant chat filled with superfluous comments; the kind of I-can-shut-off-for-5-minutes-and-I-won’t-miss-a-thing way of talking.

In fact, I turned away rudely to pretend to talk to Medan such that he was exactly perpendicular to my forward line-of-sight. It was also torturous to listen to the gals trying to keep up the conversation with him when the table plunged into an awkward silence every now and then.

Did I mention only the gals were entertaining him??

haha… When I turned away, I happened to notice that my sound-alike-talk-alike alike did the same thing. I think I can include him as a think-alike le…

Anyway, I thought he was from my army unit… BUT I THANK GOD that he was not my direct superior.

ya… But he only turned me off by virtue of the way he spoke. To be fair to him, he was not bad-looking (but erm… did he perm his hair??) and ya, I think guys of his size are agile. And from the only conclusion that I got from the chatter, ya… he is an adventurous guy. (ok, I spent 3 bloody lines trying to talk good about him, gg, don’t come nagging at me for being bad to your friend…)

But oh ya, I also think guys his type attracts gals. Guys who speak like him are the gal-attracter (if not, why were the gals at the table so fascinated with his chatter?). No wonder I don’t get the chick.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

And speaking of chicks, I followed a link from one famed blogger to another blog, where the guy dedicated a whole blog to prostitutes-experience the way people would do a blog for say, cooking.

He actually did reviews on different prostitutes in and out of Singapore and had a ranking of his favourite whores. You know, the way PC World will review and rank every gadget on the market. So he was saying PRC whores don’t know how to suck, Jalan Besar whores are fat and ugly etc.

Gosh… Why am I repeating those??

Anyway, what I was amazed was how vibrant the prostitute ‘industry’ is in Singapore, cos he took pictures of the whorehouses he visited. He also took pictures of prostitutes hitting on men, or lao ah peks ogling and petting them in public.

I think I lived too much in my ivory tower le.

I always thought I had an OK view when I acknowledged the presence of such vices in Singapore, but my impression was that those places were dark and lonely and guys will shuffle quickly in and out of the brothels.

But he showed pictures of the place bustling with activities, how without those PRC whores, the illegal cigarettes business would not have survived, etc. Like Vivo City, except the shoppers had different intents.

I was quite amazed at the amount of guys desperate to find relief in their sexual needs as though sex was the only thing they could live on.

It reminded me of the time when I heard that some specs in my company had a Geylang outing to get themselves laid. ah… I thought they were joking. I mean, those were the ‘obedient, JC’ guys who went through the same education system as me ma… I thought only guys like that Jacky must have sex every weekend.

I was wrong.

I confess to my ignorance.

haiz…

My RVI Achievements

Since the deadline was over like a few weeks back, and since the module also came to a close for the sem, I thought I should show off my work. haha… For the students who would be taking the module in the coming semesters to have a reference. :D

Here’s my term paper, which I did a study on how the political landscape of China in Northern and Southern Sung Dynasty influenced the style of Chinese paintings.

Term Paper for RVI

Here’s my powerpoint presentation, which I purposefully did to include Sammi’s picture lol I added some ‘commentary’ on the hidden messages I spread throughout the presentation. :P

p/s: Most of the pictures do not belong to me. I’m OK if the template of the slides are used (with or without informing me), but do not claim that I gave the rights to use those pictures, since I took them off the web/lecture notes for personal academic purposes, and in this case, to show off lol
