Blogathon 02 Mar 2008

So here’s the sequel to the wildly popular Blogathon series launched yesterday.

OK…

There are people who liked to launch sequels just for no apparent reasons and I’m one of them, k? I do have my own fantasies…

Just had breakfast with xy at PS (for the 1st time in 2 weeks, my blog mentions another name other than giam and carrotlet!!). We went to Cafe Cartel and I forced myself onto her… to treat me.

I had this Ultimate Breakfast thingy, meaning it has almost everything. It included a hotcake, 2 french toasts, 2 eggs (0ver and easy), 2 chicken sausages and 2 pieces of bacon. FYI, eggs done over and easy means ’simply pan fry it’ according to xy after the thing came. I agree. haha…

We also had cappuccino with the breakfast, though I must conclude that the cappa must be de-caf; I had to buy a cup of coffee at Mac’s before I came for my lab.

Anyways, we also helped ourselves with the bread served free flow. I don’t know if it’s cos it’s morning or what, but the bread was especially hot and crispy. Nice~ :D And I must say the morning crowd is a more subdued (and hence more tolerable) crowd. They talked in low voices, do not make too much noises, and of cos, the kids are at a Mac’s elsewhere in the building/area.

Not forgetting the fact that it was a rainy morning.

I like cold, rainy days, and cultivated crowds which makes me feel I’m in Australia or NZ, if you get what I mean. Somehow, there is a myth that says Westerners are rowdy and uncouth. I think it’s the Chinese’s way of diverting attention away from them, the source. When I went to Australia or NZ, the people are nice and quiet. The surroundings are tranquil and peaceful. My impression of China and S. Korea speaks otherwise.

But oh well… the Aussies and the Kiwis aren’t really from the West, I suppose. And the cities I went to weren’t really those bustling with hyper-activities. Perhaps one day, when I finally step foot on NY, I will be in a better position to comment ba…

Anyways, came back to lab to slug.

xy helped me get a paper bag from Cartel so that I could take away the muffins that were in our meals. She really machiam mummy. haha… What if one day I ask you to be my 干妈, how would you feel?? hehe…

The bag and the muffins hidden inside. Look at the blotch! It reminded me of how oily muffins are.

By the way, I took more pix last night, which I ended up forgetting to post. Here are two… (Beware of fainting spells! Some pix feature irresistible subjects…)

Now… Take a deep breath…

My eraser chipped off with no apparent reason!!!

Notice how I was zipping up my windbreaker to the very top? Nope, I wasn’t trying to act cool, but I was COLD. The rainy weather and the fear of those precious, ancient, UNIX computers bursting into flames have had the lab acting like a giant freezer. I was so cold that zipping up to the top didn’t really help me gain some warmth. haiz… But then it’s rather warm and humid outside too. lol I dunno… Can I not make a conclusion out of this??

Now, looking at the case of JI leader escaping, does it make one feel scared or amused?

I feel insecure. It’s something like watching an ivory tower falling into pieces.

Just less than half a year ago, we had one young (and apparently naive) NSF sneaking out of camp with a loaded rifle. He was caught within 24 hours, thankfully.

But now, we have an escaped terrorist who can get his hands on explosives and stuff like that. 72 hours later, he’s still nowhere to be found.

But well, there’s a difference between those 2. One is an ah beng and one is a terrorist head. The latter should be much smarter than the former, right? (or else how to be head?) One thing I know, the terrorist will not be not stupid enough to appear in crowded places.

Or MAYBE he is. I mean, the government has been sending people searching in wooded areas in Thomson and Bukit Batok. But has anyone searched any build-up areas? The very built-up areas? Who knows he already stole himself a set of clothes and is going to Cineleisure for a movie.

But well, I am assuming that both guys have the same level of intelligence, which actually isn’t something that impossible. ah haha… You know why lah…

The irony here is how highly-secure institutions in Singapore are showing their shortcomings. In fact, the level of security of the detention house should be higher than that of an army camp. wow… Machiam like watching a game being played, where the protagonist cleared increasing levels of security. And of cos, the hostility of the escapee is also increasing.

What next?

Perhaps Osama will send another video and wa-kaoz-the-ping-pong-piangz! Singaporeans watching the video will find the background familiar. Then we realize in horror Osama took the video in Istana. muahaha! That will be very ironic indeed.

Oh no… someone will say: It’s fake lah! With the technology now, can photoshop!

Then another person will point out from the background the fish tank and KY jelly potted plants that were specially placed around the room in preparation for the PM National Rally.

Had dinner with carrotlet. He wanted me to help him look through his reflection paper for HR, and I made him queue for the food at Mac’s. haha… This is building trust mah… haha…

Somehow, he managed to entice me into walking to his room. oh… I mean, his hall. I never step into his room, k?

Gosh… Why am I rushing to explain this??

oh… and well, happy End of Mid Term! If you ever had one. ;P

Blogathon 01 Mar 2008

I have a full Saturday to myself. And I’m going to record down as much as I could, throughout the day, and publish it at the stroke of midnight. haha… bo liao… But tis me :D

1st, I shall showcase my brunch… haha…

2008-03-01-2-s.jpg

Cos of the rain at about 7am, I slingered (slither+linger) in bed till 10am. By the time I reached school, it was almost 11am, so as usual, I had a heavy 1st meal to settle for breakfast and lunch.

One thing I realize is that I have the ability to tell time at the very moment I wake up. For the past few weeks, if I killed my alarm clock and continued to slinger in bed, when I finally do get up, I will just tell myself: oh darn! It must have been XXam, I’m going to be late!

And sure enough, when I reached for my handphone, the time will show my estimation, plus or minus 10 min. And mind you! Like this morning, my alarm went off at 6:30am. 3.5 hours later, I could still tell the time ;)

ya… Enough of my bed activities crap.

Then, I came to lab (ah budden?) to slack slug (slack+mug). If not, why I am typing this nonsense here?

I also realized that I have accredited another terminal with the feng shui title. Ironically enough, it is adjacent to the old champion.

2008-03-01-4-lab.jpg

The new feng shui place meant that I can exploit the space from the other 2 terminals, unlike the old one, where I could only extend my territory in one direction. haha… I’m training to be more irritating and inconsiderate lol

I actually spent 1 hr surfing the Mindef career website. WHAT AM I THINKING?!?! At least I got some facts right for my novel haha… One thing I also confirmed: even if I want to sign on, they won’t even want me. At least this prevents me from realizing suicidal thoughts… lol

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Just returned from dinner. Of cos, on Saturdays, in NUS, it has gotta be Mac’s. The queues were like long long long. For waiting 20 minutes, I find it hard to call that fast food. But oh well, I had to eat, right?

Watched 2 eps of House today. ha… Last night, I watched Episode 11, which had something that resonated in me. House’s friend Wilson was like telling him:

You are only making yourself miserable. You detest yourself, but at the same time you love the way you are. You can’t afford to change yourself, cos when you do, you lose what is unique to you and what you love about yourself.

Or something like that.

Actually, in Episode 17 of the last season, a patient also said something to House, that made me cringe:

You make a joke out of everything so that it seems that you don’t care. When you don’t care, it doesn’t matter, cos when it matters, and it gets worse, you get hurt by it.

I wonder if it’s only me who thought my conscience was talking to me from TV… lol

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

9:20am, I’m preparing to leave the lab, as soon as the latest episode of House finishes downloading.

I was quite amazed at how those people from the greatest nation could transform themselves into mugging robots. When I came here in the late morning, they were already there. Their eyes were glued to the computers, hands busy typing/clicking away. All the way till like, NOW. *arghhh!! Right eyeball rolled out onto the floor!!*

I mean I also had my eyes glued to computers and hands busy, but the nature of my activities varies between leisure and work. From their expressions, they were obviously all work.

How do they do it? (Maybe Discovery Channel can have an episode on this in their same-titled programme lol)

I don’t understand how people can lead lives with no lives. For me, even though my life now is like lifeless, at least I indulge in junk TV, food and blogging. The only thing in their lives seemed to be work. So much so that everyday tasks to them were like string theory to us ordinary folks.

One principle I gathered from the queue at Mac’s just now was that many factors affect the speed of the queue’s progress (if you are trying to bet on which queue moves the fastest).

Apart from the actual number of people in the queues and the number of orders per queue, you also have to count the percentage of the people who come from countries where English is not their 1st language in the queue.

I’m saying this cos they constitute to a grave factor in slowing down queues. They can’t speak proper English, but pretend they could. The poor gal at the counter looked like she was going to dip her head in the fryer for trying to decipher their Act-American-Accents. Worst still, they have a lot of petty requests (1 Big Mac Meal, 1 Fillet-O-Fish Meal, 1 McSpicy Meal and 1 Nuggets. No, nuggets no meal, fillet-o-fish without tartar sauce, Big Mac no vege, McSpicy more mayo, fries upsize 2 of them, one of the upsized no salt, the one not upsized one also no salt. oh… Maybe a little, you know, 2 pinches. Curry sauce, BBQ sauce, chilli sauce. No, chilli sauce I want 15, curry 3 and BBQ 1. Hey, you gave me one packet of chilli sauce LESS!!) or that they had no idea what they were buying (burgers and fries aren’t exactly numbers or equations, although the advertisements showed them that way).

Whatever!

I’m done downloading House. Time to catch A1!!

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

ah… Got caught up with watching House (again??!?) and forgot to publish this post at midnight. Damn!!!

Met yc on the way to the bus stop and I stopped to talk to him for a while. Actually not a while. More like 15 min. It was funny how 2 guys, young guys could talk like old men who were going to die. But the idea of ending a phase of our lives and going out to society was making us feel oh-so-touchy…

Somehow, he convinced me I was an ah beng. ha… 1st time someone make that comment, I brush it off. 2nd time was a coincidence. 3rd, whoa! Gotta take it in my stride.

haha…

But frankly speaking, is dyed hair (ya… RED), ear piercing and cool street cuts beng? I call that uBeRSeXuaL… hehe… :D

ah… Mid-term’s ending today. boohoo!!! I want to end this stage of life FAST!!

p/s: For the one who went (and is still) gaga over seeing the word ‘yc’ in this post, it means ‘yuncai’, k? hehe…
