Haircut!
Had a haircut just now cos I couldn’t stand my lateral-growing hair. Went to It’s Hairy at Far East Plaza, since I read on the web that it was a good hair salon for cool street cuts (read: PUNK). haha…
I was quite apprehensive to step into the salon, cos the store front was adorned with pictures of people with atrocious hairstyles. African pleats, Mohawk etc… I was like: I want a good haircut, but I wasn’t sure whether I want a haircut good enough for Superstar auditions…
But well, I went ahead.
The salon wasn’t decked out like Chapter 2. It actually looked more like a HDB salon. The only thing unique about it was that I was sitting in front of a sink. By just turning my seat and lowering the back, my head was ready for its pre-cut wash.
The lady asked me to choose from the 3 books of haircuts-profiles. Oh well… They all looked nice, cool, with a lot that weren’t too loud, but I knew they won’t fit me. Those are haircuts on small, sharp Japanese faces. Not my kind of big, big, BIG heads. So I told her my expectations, that is to make my head look less lateral, and off she went.
The amount of detail she went through was seen through her meticulous job of cutting only a few strands (ok, not that exaggerating, but about what 2 fingers can hold) of hair a time. The only shaving that was done was at the part above my ears, the part hidden by the ears. She didn’t use the jaggard scissors to make my hair thin.
After everything, I put on my glasses and wondered if I looked like I had undergone chemotherapy. But perhaps it’s more of my genetic-balding than the lady’s skills lol
Ok, after all the suspense, here’s the result:
As usual, people around me didn’t feel the amount of money I paid was justified. ha… You know… I actually took tonnes of photos before I could pick out 4 that looked better than the rest.
I think a slimming regime will do me more justice than the most expensive haircuts in the world.
lol
Time to get back to working out!
The McDonald’s EZ Link Card Problem Evaluation
Just got a call from McDonald’s itself (as in a staff down there, NOT the red-hair guy) to investigate into my feedback. He asked and confirmed that I didn’t activate my card.
“There are 2 steps, register your card and activate it in McDonald’s.” he said. “It’s stated on the website.”
So, with the desire to understand the truth, I checked the website and here’s what the instruction said:
For Rewards points accumulation, you may register up to 5 ez-link cards to your Rewards account. You may activate your ez-link cards at any Singapore McDonald’s outlet.
DO NOT evaluate the statement yet, before I give you my background story.
Long time ago (OK, during my early years in NUS), I registered as a member at TBP Mac’s, directly. So I could use my EZ-Link card to accumulate reward points. Then, my card went faulty and I had to replace it. For a few months, I continued to accumulate points at Mac’s, forgetting that I was using a new card.
Then I found out that they charge the points to the card number, but not the card user. So I went online, registered for a web account and activated my new EZ Link card. From then, I continued successfully accumulate points at Mac’s.
Last Sep, I then found out that my card wasn’t receiving the points I painfully accumulated. I checked the web accoun, and my card was ‘registered’. Sent a complaint letter, which Mac’s eventually forgot about the matter.
Last week, I still could not redeem my points and I wrote a 2nd letter. I subsequently found out that yes, my card has not been accumulating points. 100% sure.
Back to the statement at the website, my conclusion was that it was poorly constructed.
1) The 1st statement suggested that I have to register the card in order to accumulate points. But the 2nd sentence did not further support the idea.v It is just a discontinued, unrelated sentence that only conveys the message that I have to activate my card, but not FOR WHAT. To bring about my point, the statement should have been:
For Rewards points accumulation, you may register up to 5 ez-link cards to your Rewards account ONLINE AND THEN activate your ez-link cards at any Singapore McDonald’s outlet.
2) The statement suggested that there are 2 ways (and not 2 steps) to activate the card to accumulate points. Or I should say that the statement does not 100% refer to the existence of ‘2 steps to card activation’. It should have said in the 2nd sentence: You SHOULD activate your card… (or in the way I phrased just now) That would make the sentence 100% exclusive to the suggestion that there is only 1 way to card activation, that is to do it in 2 steps.
The most perfect way to make that statement infallible is:
For Rewards points accumulation:
1) Register up to 5 ez-link cards to your Rewards account here and (’here’ being online at where the statement was found)
2) Activate your ez-link cards at any Singapore McDonald’s outlet.
3) I bet there are few people in my situation. Most prob they registered at an outlet (like I did the 1st time round) and activated their card and continued using it happily ever after. Therefore, few people will even read and notice that the statement is faulty. Which explains why they don’t receive complaints from people facing such problems.
Now that the misunderstanding is cleared up, there is only 1 thing I’m still not satisfied with:
Why is it that when the card is not ‘activated’, it still recorded successful transaction at the counter?
That was the only reason which made me believe that my card was OK all this while.

His name is zenov.
The reason for the Russian-y name was the fact that he could not bear to hear about 80% of the people around him mis-pronouncing his Chinese name.
And yes, he lives in Punggol, Singapore.
He now holds a B.Eng (Electrical and Computer) degree from NUS, majoring in Device Technology (ie. how to make a semi-conductor).
Currently, looking for a job in engineering or general management.
